Welcome To Our College
Since 1999 The Richmond Fellowship Society (India) has been running the Richmond Fellowship Postgraduate College. We are committed to the training and development of psychosocial rehabilitation and counselling professionals.. We offer a prestigious MSc in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Counselling and a variety of short courses aimed at introducing people to the concepts of rehabilitation and supporting the professional development of a wide range of health and social care practitioners. What is significant about the two year, full-time MSc in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Counselling, is the fact that it is the only program of its kind across Asia.
The course is distinctive in the manner in which it was created. The full-time M.Sc. degree has its roots in the historical development of the parent organisation, notably the RFS(I)’s experience of the paucity of trained staff needed to work within its own centres. This led to the creation of the first course in 1999. Having grown organically from the Fellowship’s work, the course’s unique selling point is this distinctive expertise – a fact which Rajiv Gandhi University, with which the college is affiliated, has recognized.
The strength of this course is that fifty per cent of the training is hands-on. The Society runs its own rehabilitation facilities, so the students are exposed to these and trained under supervision. This M.Sc. programme stands apart as it is based on the conviction that no rehabilitation / conselling course can function effectively by teaching only theory, without adequate practical exposure. The RFS(I)’s accent on rehabilitation for chronic mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and bi-polar affective disorder, is notable as it creates rehabilitation professionals in the field of Mental Health where there is a gross lack of such cadre.
The Richmond Fellowship College is recognized by the Government of Karnataka, and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India. We have a Memorandum of Understanding with NIMHANS under which resources are shared for the mutual benefit of our students and faculties. |
